The regular meeting of Br. 782 was called to order by President Frank
Thomasy at 7:33 p.m. the 25th day of November, 2003 at the Branch office, 2628 F
Street, Bakersfield. The flag salute was led by Sgt. at Arms, Jeff
Harrington. All members of the Executive Board were present. The stewards from 01,
04, 05, 07, 08, 09, Camino Media, Delano, Lamont, Shafter and Wasco were
present. Also present was Newsletter Editor, Basil Zuniga, Assistant Editor, Gene
Shebley, OWCP Representative, George Perez, Safety and Health Representative,
Danny Blair and Anita Holderman of the Social and Recreation Committee. The
minutes of the October 28, 2003 meeting were read and accepted with not
additions or corrections.
APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP: Applications for membership were received from
Martin Gamboa, Maria Ramirez, Debra Whatley, Jamie Fredenburg, Linda Tatman,
Teresa Garcia and Gregory Barraza.
REPORTS OF SPECIAL AND STANDING COMMITTEES: Basil Zuniga reported that
Camino Media “came through” on newsletter folding night with the help of the
crew from Dole Ct. Folding will be December 10th and it will be Downtown
Stations turn. Frank Thomasy reported that the Retiree Dinner is still “in the
works”. He will try to get it set up for January and posted in the December
newsletter. Basil asked that if a member moves, please notify the branch, it costs
the branch seventy cents each to get the change of address.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Molly Biggar reported that the 50/50 drawing from the
picnic earned $160. which was donated to MDA.
NEW BUSINESS: None
GOOD OF THE ASSOCIATION: Frank Thomasy discussed the problems with the
Route Count and Inspections at Ridgecrest, which are now becoming problems in
the adjustments in Bakersfield. Management does not want the Union involved in
the adjustments. Frank will write and article for the newsletter regarding
the up coming counts in Bakersfield. Molly Biggar made a motion that the
Recording Secretary make all the travel arrangement for branch members. Seconded
by Diana Chavez. A discussion was held and the motion was defeated. Mark
Ramirez reported that Open Season for Health Benefits has been extended to
December 29th. Anyone wanting to change their Health Benefits may do so by
requesting Form SF2809 or by using Postal Ease. Basil Zuniga asked if anyone else had
seen the Postmaster on the News. When asked why carriers are working after
dark, he told the reporter that he would be hiring 14 more carriers. Frank asked if everyone had voted.
IMPROVEMENT OF THE ASSOCIATION:
FINANCIAL SECRETARY’S REPORT: Diana Chavez reported that $11,230.91 was
collected for November 2003.

Roger Pearce made a motion to suspend the meeting while the votes are
counted. Seconded by Danny Blair and passed.
