Minutes of the January 2003 General Meeting
The regular meeting of Branch 782 was called to order by President Frank Thomasy at 7:30 p.m. the 28th day of January, 2003 at the Branch office, 2628 F Street, Bakersfield. The flag salute was led by Sergeant-at-Arms Jeff Harrington. All members of the Executive Board were present. The stewards from 04,06,07,08, Camino Media, Delano and Lamont were present. Also present were Newsletter Editor Basil Zuniga and Assistant Editor, Gene Shebley. Frank Martinez and Anita Holderman of the Social and Recreation Committee were also present. Frank Thomasy introduced Joan Hurst (Regional Administrative Assistant to the National Business Agent) who is present tonight to install the officers. The minutes of the December 17, 2002 meeting were read and accepted with no additions or corrections. The communications were read. The bills were read by Treasurer, Molly Biggar. Joe Jones made a motion to pay the bills. Seconded by Gene “Pink” Shebley and passed.
APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP: An application was received from James Oh.
REPORTS OF SPECIAL AND STANIDING COMMITTEES:
Basil Zuniga reported that next month it wilt be Downtown Station’s turn to fold the newsletter. Folding will he on the third Wednesday of the month.

NEW BUSINESS: None
GOOD OF THE ASSOCIATION: Frank Thomasy discussed the defunct S 1000 life insurance benefit for branch members. This benefit was cancelled several years ago and all members should remove the information regarding this benefit from their files. Diana Chavez will be sending all retirees a letter to this effect so that they know this benefit was canceled. Frank Thomasy also discussed getting copies of the National Agreement: the stucco on the front of the building: the Area Meeting in February: Route inspections and DPS agreements in Arvin, Lamont and Wasco. Mike Towery will go to Shafter to meet with John Smith regarding agreements for Shafter. Frank Thomasy continued with discussions regarding resurfacing the parking lot and repairing the sidewalk in the front. He also informed anyone interested in attending the Southern Area Training in Pasadena on March 21—23 to be sure to contact Kim Gerdes.
IMPROVEMENT OF TIIE ASSOCIATION:
Joan Hurst installed the Branch Officers. She then discussed some recent Arbitrations and answered questions from the membership. Mike Towery announced that Tina Harbour will become the Steward at the Downtown Station.
FINANCIAL SECRETARY’S REPORT:
Diana Chavez reported that $10,731.68 was collected for January 2003.
