The regular meeting of Branch 782 was called to order by President Frank
Thomasy at 7:31 p.m. on the 25th day of February 2003 at the Branch office,
2628 F Street, Bakersfield. The flag salute was led by Sergeant-at-Arms Jeff
Harrington. Frank Thomasy asked that a moment of silence be observed in
memory of Alfred "Rudy" Magana who passed away this morning. All members of
the Executive Board were present. The stewards from 01, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08,
09, Camino Media, Delano, Lamont and Wasco were present. Also present were
Newsletter Editor, Basil Zuniga and Assistant Editor Gene "Pink' Shebley.
Frank Martinez and Anita Holderman of the Social and Recreation Committee
were also present.
The minutes of the January 28, 2003 meeting were read and accepted with no
additions or corrections.
APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP: Applications were received from Breanna
Taverner, Dawn Rimmer, Anna Leon, John Rugnao and Sukhvir (Steve) Singh.
REPORTS OF SPECIAL AND STANDING COMMITTEES: Pam Mauck reported that the
Food Drive will be the second weekend in May.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: There will be Treasurer Training in March. Anita
Holderman will attend to learn the program used for payroll and to pay the
bills. Frank Thomasy reported that Danny Blair will be the new Safety and
Health Committee Member. Frank Thomasy and Mike Towery will be in Ridgecrest
on March 4 to work on their DPS 60 day reviews. Frank also reported that Mike
Towery is still working on getting bids for the parking lot and getting the
stucco repaired on the front of the building. There will be a meeting on
March 18 at 6:30 for those members attending the Southern Area Training in
Pasadena.
NEW BUSINESS: None
GOOD OF THE ASSOCIATION: Basil Zuniga made handouts for those attending
tonight's meeting. The information is on occupational diseases and OWCP
claims. Bill Curtis made a motion that the Branch pay Rudy Magana's family
the money he would have received when he retired. Seconded by Joe Jones and
passed.
IMPROVEMENT OF THE ASSOCIATION: Mike Towery will no longer be the steward at
Camino Media. Effective March 1st, Margaret Romero will be the steward. Frank
Thomasy reported that Ted Martinez, Camino Media, retired. He also reported
that the tenant has reported a bug problem. Molly Biggar will contact a pest
control service. Frank Thomasy reported on the route counts in Arvin. Diana
Chavez asked that anyone who did not receive the OWCP handout let Basil know.
He is making more copies. Mike Towery reported that as a result of a
grievance filed by Irene Pasos, the senior PTF, Tom Young, will be converted
to Full Time Flexible effective February 8, 2003 and assigned to Stockdale.
FINANCIAL SECRETARY'S REPORT: Diana Chavez reported that $11,136.98 was
collected for February 2003.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Molly Biggar reported:

The COLCPE drawing was won by Margaret Romero. She donated her winnings to the
Brain Power Project.
The drawing for $450.00 would have been won by Tony Garcia except he was not
present.
The services for Rudy Magana will be Monday March 4, 10:00 a.m., Hopson
Mortuary, 620 Oregon St.
There were 39 members present.
Kim Gerdes reported that Downtown Station had 22 people attend the newsletter
folding. Thank you Dole Court and Downtown. Next month, it is South
Station's turn.
